Malang, June 3, 2024 – Let’s Play Indonesia welcomed 10 students from IIBS (International Islamic Boarding School) Thursina to do a play session at Piknik Hub Malang. This play session with the students was specifically designed to introduce the concept of financial literacy through Game-Based Learning (an innovative and interactive learning method using board games).
The theme of introducing financial concept is considered important in increasing financial awareness in junior high and senior high school students. Let’s Play Indonesia representative, Arif Bawono Surya, stated: “We are really glad to collaborate with IIBS Thursina in this event. Game-Based Learning is an effective method for teaching financial literacy concepts to students. We hope that through this play session, the students can understand the importance of financial literacy and be able to apply this knowledge in their daily lives.”
In this play session, Let’s Play Indonesia chose two types of board game, namely Brick and Mortar and Pesona (Social Economic Development of Action State). Both types of that board game can train the students in managing financial strategy and knowing the impact of every financial decision they make.
The play session began at 9 a.m. WIB. The students were divided into several groups to each play one type of board game first, then continue with the second board game. So, there are groups of students who played Brick and Mortar first, and vice versa, there are also those who played Pesona first. During the play session, facilitators from Let’s Play Indonesia accompanied and explained the game rules, as well as the financial concepts contained in them.
The Brick and Mortar board game invites students to stimulate retail business management. Every decision made, whether in purchasing, selling, or managing resources, must be thought out carefully. This game teaches the importance of financial planning, risk management, and business strategy in the real world.
Meanwhile, the Pesona (Social Economic Development of Action State) board game brings the students into a fictional state where they have to design and manage development projects by considering various economic and social aspects. Through this game, the students learn about budgeting concepts, investation, and the social impact from every economic decision they make.
Within 120 minutes, they seemed enthusiastic and actively involved in the game. Let’s Play Indonesia successfully wrapped complex financial learning into an engaging experience and easier to understand by the students. Through a Game-Based Learning approach, this session not only offers fun, but also emphasizes a deep understanding of financial concepts.
The IIBS Thursina students also gave a very positive response to this play session. They felt that the Game-Based Learning method made learning about finance more interesting and easier to understand. One of the participants said, “This is a different learning experience. We learn while playing, so it does not feel heavy, but very beneficial.”
Discussion sessions and reflection were held in every decision they made. So that in the game they not only played, but also understood the consequences from every financial decision they had made.
