On the first day, participants were introduced to the basic concept of shape in character design. A facilitator from Let’s Play Indonesia, Irma, explained how basic shapes can influence a character’s personality and function in a game.

The session began with theory and was continued with a practice session aimed at giving an understanding of the importance of basic shapes in creating characters that are both appealing and functional.

On the second day was filled with a lesson by the instructor, Ayyub Anshari Sukmaraga, about the basics of drawing and expression shapes to be applied to characters. Theory about character design was presented first, then continued with practice sessions to develop the students’ technical skills in drawing lively and expressive characters.

“We invite the students to get to know basic techniques for drawing faces and bodies, as well as how to depict various expressions that can convey emotions and the unique characteristics of each character,” said Sukmaraga.

On the last day, the students conducted research on character design development to determine the most optimal shape or expression for the characters they created. The students were taught how to conduct visual research and reference analysis to develop characters that align with the game’s objectives.

Let’s Play Indonesia’ facilitators, Alfi and Ulil, emphasized the importance of research in the creative process. After that continued with a work session supervised by facilitators. The students then presented their works.

The students seemed very enthusiastic throughout the training. They actively participated in each session, were willing to ask questions, and engaged in discussions with the facilitators. Some students even showed significant progress in their drawing skills and their understanding of character design.
