Indienesia Game Festival: Celebrating Creativity and Innovation in the Game Industry

July 26, 2024 – Bina Nusantara (BINUS) University has organized the “Indienesia Game Festival,” an event designed to introduce the game industry development to the BINUS University students. An event that held from July 26 to 28, 2024, via online through Discord app, attracting the enthusiasm of 175 participants and presented more than 20 game studios from across Indonesia.

This festival aims to provide in-depth insights into the game industry to the students, while offering the opportunity to directly interact with professionals in this field. Furthermore, this event also serves as a platform to showcase innovative works from various game studios, enabling participants to explore and try out the various digital games on display.

 

Series of Activities

This festival lasted for three days and was online, enabling wider participation from various locations. On the first day, the event opened with a welcome speech from the committee and organizer, BINUS University, highlighting the importance of the game industry in the creative economy and how students can play an active role in the development of this sector.

The entire event was conducted with sharing sessions filled by various game studios. In these sessions, representatives from each studio shared their experiences, challenges, and strategies that they used in game development process. These sharing sessions were not only giving practical insights, but also giving inspiration for students who interested in pursuing career in the game industry.

During the three-day festival, each game studio was given the opportunity to present their profile. These presentations included the studio’s history, their developed game portfolio, and their vision and mission in the game industry. The participants could directly see how creative ideas could be developed into engaging and successful products in the market.

After the presentation session, participants were given the chance to virtually visit each studio. Each studio provided game demos that participants could try, offering a direct experience on how the games functioned and the fun experience they offered. Moreover, participants could also discuss directly with the developers, gaining deeper insights about the game creation process, the technology used, and the challenges faced in game development.

Let’s Play Indonesia felt very proud to participate in the Indienesia Game Festival. This event not only introduced students to the dynamic world of the game industry, but also provided a platform for game studios to showcase their works and interact directly with an enthusiastic audience. Let’s Play Indonesia also hopes that this festival can inspire students to continue creating and innovating in game development.

The participants showed high enthusiasm throughout the festival. They actively engaged in each session, asking questions, and discussing with industry professionals. Many participants stated that they gained a lot of new insights into the game industry and felt more prepared to pursue a career in this field.

The Indienesia Game Festival provided a very valuable experience. Not only learnt on how games are developed, but they also had the opportunity to talk directly with developers. This truly opened participants’ eyes to the potential and opportunity in the game industry.

 

Conclusion

The Indienesia Game Festival organized by BINUS University successfully achieved its goal of introducing the developments in the game industry to students while facilitating direct interaction with professionals in this field. Session of Game-Based Learning with Insan Amanah Students at Malang Creative Center

Malang, July 18, 2024 – Let’s Play Indonesia have done an activity namely the Game-Based Learning Session with Insan Amanah Students held on Thursday (18/7/2024), at Malang Creative Center (MCC). This event was attended by 170 participants consisting of 150 students from 7th to 9th grade Insan Amanah Junior High School and 20 facilitators.

The aim of this event is to enhance students’ awareness of the importance of tax consciousness through a Game-Based Learning approach by using the Pesona (Pembangunan Ekonomi Sosial Negeri Aksi) Board Game. By using this method, it is hoped that students can understand tax concept in a more interactive and enjoyable way.

 

Series of Activities

The event started from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. WIB with an introduction session by facilitators from Let’s Play Indonesia. The facilitators introduced themselves and explained the purpose of this event. They also provided an overview of the importance of tax in economic and social development.

After the introduction session, facilitators explained on how to play the Pesona Board Game to the students. This board game is designed to simulate economic and social development scenarios, where the players must make decisions that can impact the welfare of the community. Through this game, students are invited to understand on how taxes contribute to development and public services.

Next, the students were divided into small groups, each consisting of 10 students and guided by a facilitator. In total, there were 15 facilitators helping the game run, consisting of 10 teachers from Insan Amanah and 5 facilitators from Let’s Play Indonesia. Each group was given a set of Pesona Board Game and began the playing session.

During the playing session, the students actively engaged in making strategic decisions that affect economic and social development in the game. Facilitators observed and provided guidance if needed, ensuring each group understood and followed the game rules well.

After the playing session ended, a reflective session was held where students were invited to reflect on their experiences during the game. This discussion was led by facilitators who explored students’ understanding of the role of taxes in economic and social development. The students shared their views and learned from each other’s experiences.

Let’s Play Indonesia is pleased to collaborate with Insan Amanah in this event. Game-Based Learning is an effective method to make learning more engaging and participative. “We hope that through the Pesona Board Game, the students can understand the importance of taxes and how their contributions can help build the country.”

The students showed high enthusiasm throughout the event. They actively participated in each session and gave positive feedback on the benefits of the game-based learning method. Many students stated that they gained new insights and felt more motivated to learn about taxes and their role in society.

 

Conclusion

The Game-Based Learning Session with Insan Amanah Students activity organized by Let’s Play Indonesia successfully achieved its goal of enhancing students’ awareness of tax consciousness. Through interactive and practical sessions, the students acquired the knowledge and skills needed to understand the role of taxes in economic and social development. This activity is expected to be able to give a positive impact on teaching methods at Insan Amanah, as well as increase students’ understanding about the importance of their contributions as responsible citizens.

UNESA Students Ready to Explore the Potential of the Creative Industry with Let’s Play Indonesia

Malang, June 20, 2024 – Let’s Play Indonesia gave an opportunity for the students of State University of Surabaya (UNESA) to get to know the creative industry more closely through the Comparison Study activity. Fifty students from the D4 Graphic Design Study Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, UNESA, Class of 2022 participated in the Comparison Study, which also aimed to strengthen the relationship between students, academics, and practitioners in the field of graphic design.

This Comparison Study activity was designed to broaden students’ insights into how the creative industry operates professionally. Starting from the ideation process to the final production stage was explained.

Students were invited to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the ever-evolving industrial world. Besides that , students could build stronger networks with practitioners, creating collaborations that could enrich their academic and practical experiences.

The Comparison Study was held from 3 to 5 p.m. WIB. The entire series of events was packed with various educational activities. At the beginning, students were introduced to the potential of creating illustration assets applied to educational games. In this session, students were encouraged to understand how illustration becomes an essential component in game development, especially in educational games that must have high educational value.

Then, students were introduced to the production flow process in game creation. That process included the stages of ideation, concept development, prototype design, and final production.

“We want students not only to understand the theory but also to directly see how a game is developed from scratch until it is ready for use by users,” said Istivano, one of the speakers from Let’s Play Indonesia.

In addition, the participants also had the opportunity to try out Si Centing (Stunting Prevention Simulation). A game developed by Let’s Play Indonesia to raise awareness about the importance of stunting prevention.

Through this session, students could see that game applications could be used as an effective educational tool. The session of trying out Si Centing was not only enjoyable, but also provided new insights into the potential of games as beneficial educational media.

UNESA students showed high enthusiasm throughout the event. They actively participated in the discussion sessions, asked about challenges and opportunities in the creative industry, and took part in the game playing sessions. One of the participants stated, “This event truly opened my eyes to how the creative industry works. This is a very valuable experience for me and my friends.”

 

The Let’s Play Indonesia representative also expressed their satisfaction with the success of this event. “We are very excited to share knowledge and direct experience with UNESA students. The creative industry, especially in the field of game development, has incredible potential in Indonesia. Through activities like this, we hope to inspire young generations to continue innovating and exploring various opportunities in this industry,” said a representative from Let’s Play Indonesia.

Through hands-on experience, the students gained a deeper understanding of the creative process in game development and the importance of collaboration in the creative business world. Let’s Play Indonesia hopes this event can be the beginning of various collaborations between academics and the industry to cultivate new talents in Indonesia’s creative world.

 

What is Si Centing?

Si Centing is a digital game innovation by Let’s Play Indonesia supported by the Malang City Department of Education & Culture along with the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Malang City. The Si Centing digital game was created to socialize the prevention of stunting among junior high school students.

Let’s Play Indonesia Invites Insan Amanah Malang Junior High School Students to Pursue Graphic Design

Malang, June 11, 2024 – Let’s Play Indonesia invites Insan Amanah Malang Junior High School students to learn together to create basic concepts for character creation in game asset development. . This joint learning was packaged in a workshop held over three days (June 11-13, 2024). Through this learning experience, it is hoped that it can grow interest and skill in graphic design among the young generations, as well as giving insight about creative process in the game industry.

Let’s Play Indonesia’s game designer, Istivano, admitted that he was happy to be able to collaborate with Insan Amanah Junior High School. “We are pleased to collaborate with Insan Amanah Junior High School to hold this workshop. We believe that graphic design basic introduction and game character creation can open students’ minds and interest in the creative industry. We hope this event can be a first step for them to explore and develop their talent in the graphic design field,” he said on behalf of Let’s Play Indonesia.

The workshop that was held on the 6th floor of Insan Amanah Junior High School Library Room was attended by 15 students from the school’s 8th grade. The theme of this workshop was to enrich graphic design to introduce 8th-grade students of Insan Amanah Junior High School to the basics of graphic design with a focus on game character creation. Let’s Play Indonesia participated with the hope of fostering interest and skills in graphic design among the younger generation, as well as providing insight into the creative processes in the gaming industry.

On the first day, participants were introduced to the basic concept of shape in character design. A facilitator from Let’s Play Indonesia, Irma, explained how basic shapes can influence a character’s personality and function in a game.

The session began with theory and was continued with a practice session aimed at giving an understanding of the importance of basic shapes in creating characters that are both appealing and functional.

On the second day was filled with a lesson by the instructor, Ayyub Anshari Sukmaraga, about the basics of drawing and expression shapes to be applied to characters. Theory about character design was presented first, then continued with practice sessions to develop the students’ technical skills in drawing lively and expressive characters.

“We invite the students to get to know basic techniques for drawing faces and bodies, as well as how to depict various expressions that can convey emotions and the unique characteristics of each character,” said Sukmaraga.

On the last day, the students conducted research on character design development to determine the most optimal shape or expression for the characters they created. The students were taught how to conduct visual research and reference analysis to develop characters that align with the game’s objectives.

Let’s Play Indonesia’ facilitators, Alfi and Ulil, emphasized the importance of research in the creative process. After that continued with a work session supervised by facilitators. The students then presented their works.

The students seemed very enthusiastic throughout the training. They actively participated in each session, were willing to ask questions, and engaged in discussions with the facilitators. Some students even showed significant progress in their drawing skills and their understanding of character design.

Evaluation of the entire series of activities was carried out at the end, after the students presented their works as part of the workshop’s conclusion. With the completion of this workshop, it is hoped that it will serve as a foundation for students to continue developing their skills and interests in graphic design and the creative industry.

 

What is Let’s Play Indonesia?

Let’s Play Indonesia is an educational startup that usually facilitates play sessions for students, teachers, as well as employees, etc. by applying Game-Based Learning method (interactive learning using board games).

Apart from playing sessions using board games, Let’s Play Indonesia is also willing to fill or collaborate with schools in conducting workshops to introduce creative processes, such as graphic design and behind-the-scenes processes of the gaming industry.

Exciting Day 1 of Graphic Design Vocational Enrichment Program for 8th Grade at MCC!

The first day of our Graphic Design Enrichment Program was filled with enthusiasm as we dived into the fundamentals of Character Design with the inspiring guidance of Kak Ima Kusumawati Hidayat, S.SN, M.DS! Students from SMP Insan Amanah joined with great excitement, eager to learn new techniques and put them into practice right away.

Activities Recap:

  • Introduction to Character Design: The day kicked off with Kak Ima’s engaging lesson on the basics of character design. She shared her insights on essential principles, from proportions to personality traits, sparking the students’ interest in creating unique characters.
  • Learning Cool Techniques: Under Kak Ima’s direction, students explored exciting techniques that form the foundation of effective character design. They learned about shapes, lines, and how to bring out personality through small details—a perfect start for unleashing creativity!
  • Hands-On Practice: With pencils in hand, students wasted no time in applying what they learned. The room was alive with the buzz of sketching and brainstorming as everyone poured their ideas onto paper. Creativity truly flowed as students brought their characters to life!

Inspiration and Enthusiasm:

Each student was brimming with energy and determination to express their ideas. The chance to learn from a professional like Kak Ima ignited a newfound passion for design, and many students left eager to build on their skills in the coming days.

Conclusion:

Day 1 of the Graphic Design Enrichment Program was a fantastic start! With fun, practical learning and inspiring mentorship, students gained valuable insights into character design. We can’t wait to see how their creativity will evolve in the upcoming sessions!
