Indienesia Game Festival: Celebrating Creativity and Innovation in the Game Industry

July 26, 2024 – Bina Nusantara (BINUS) University has organized the “Indienesia Game Festival,” an event designed to introduce the game industry development to the BINUS University students. An event that held from July 26 to 28, 2024, via online through Discord app, attracting the enthusiasm of 175 participants and presented more than 20 game studios from across Indonesia.

This festival aims to provide in-depth insights into the game industry to the students, while offering the opportunity to directly interact with professionals in this field. Furthermore, this event also serves as a platform to showcase innovative works from various game studios, enabling participants to explore and try out the various digital games on display.

 

Series of Activities

This festival lasted for three days and was online, enabling wider participation from various locations. On the first day, the event opened with a welcome speech from the committee and organizer, BINUS University, highlighting the importance of the game industry in the creative economy and how students can play an active role in the development of this sector.

The entire event was conducted with sharing sessions filled by various game studios. In these sessions, representatives from each studio shared their experiences, challenges, and strategies that they used in game development process. These sharing sessions were not only giving practical insights, but also giving inspiration for students who interested in pursuing career in the game industry.

During the three-day festival, each game studio was given the opportunity to present their profile. These presentations included the studio’s history, their developed game portfolio, and their vision and mission in the game industry. The participants could directly see how creative ideas could be developed into engaging and successful products in the market.

After the presentation session, participants were given the chance to virtually visit each studio. Each studio provided game demos that participants could try, offering a direct experience on how the games functioned and the fun experience they offered. Moreover, participants could also discuss directly with the developers, gaining deeper insights about the game creation process, the technology used, and the challenges faced in game development.

Let’s Play Indonesia felt very proud to participate in the Indienesia Game Festival. This event not only introduced students to the dynamic world of the game industry, but also provided a platform for game studios to showcase their works and interact directly with an enthusiastic audience. Let’s Play Indonesia also hopes that this festival can inspire students to continue creating and innovating in game development.

The participants showed high enthusiasm throughout the festival. They actively engaged in each session, asking questions, and discussing with industry professionals. Many participants stated that they gained a lot of new insights into the game industry and felt more prepared to pursue a career in this field.

The Indienesia Game Festival provided a very valuable experience. Not only learnt on how games are developed, but they also had the opportunity to talk directly with developers. This truly opened participants’ eyes to the potential and opportunity in the game industry.

DIKST KEMENKOP Session: Enhancing Entrepreneurial Collaboration through Game-Based Learning

Malang, July 20, 2024 – Let’s Play Indonesia played a role in the bootcamp activity organized by the Directorate of Innovation and Science & Technology Area of the Ministry of Cooperatives (DIKST KEMENKOP) on Saturday (20/7/2024), at THE 1O1 Malang OJ. This event was attended by 40 participants from 20 start-ups operating in the agricultural field.

The main purpose of this event was to give new insights and ideas to the participants about the importance of cooperation and collaboration in entrepreneurial teams. Through this session, the participants were expected to enhance their ability to work together and develop effective business strategy.

 

Series of Activities

On the second day of the bootcamp, Let’s Play Indonesia attended to facilitate a Business Craft Board Game playing session. This session was designed to simulate the dynamics of the business and entrepreneurial world through an interactive and educational game. The event took place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. WIB and began with an introduction session by facilitators from Let’s Play Indonesia. The facilitators introduced themselves and provided an overview of the goals and benefits of this session.

After the introduction, the facilitators explained the rules and how to play the Business Craft Board Game. This game was designed to challenge participants to collect as much money as possible as the main objective. However, each round of the game presented complex dynamics, such as different opinions among individuals and competition among competitors. This aimed to simulate real-world situations in the business world where collaboration and negotiation are crucial.

Participants were divided into four tables, each consisting of five teams with two people per team and one facilitator. Each group was given a set of the Business Craft Board Game and started the game session. During the game, participants had to make strategic decisions, negotiate with team members, and overcome emerging challenges. The facilitators observed and provided guidance if needed, ensuring each group understood and followed the game rules properly.

The game session lasted for two hours, where participants were actively involved in every aspect of the game. They learned how to communicate effectively, make quick and precise decisions, and manage available resources to achieve team goals. This experience gave practical insights about the importance of collaboration and strategy in business development.

After the game session ended, a reflection session was held where participants were invited to reflect on their experiences during the game. This discussion was led by facilitators who explored the participants’ understanding of the dynamics they faced during the game. The participants shared their views and learned from each other’s experiences on how the best practice to collaborate and overcome challenges in entrepreneurial teams.

Let’s Play Indonesia was very pleased to participate in the DIKST KEMENKOP bootcamp activity series. Through the Business Craft Board Game, Let’s Play Indonesia hopes that the participants can understand the importance of collaboration and strategy in business. This session was designed to give a deep practical experience of how to work in a team and overcome challenges together.

Podcast with American Corner UNAIR and US Consulate General: Exploring Game Developer Development in Education

Friday, July 19, 2024 – American Corner Airlangga University (UNAIR) have organized a podcast who unites the United States Consulate General with the participants to discuss the development of the game developer industry and its application in the education field. This event was held on Friday (19/7/2024) and involved by Let’s Play Indonesia alongside with American Corner UNAIR.

The main objective of this podcast was to delve into insight on how the game developer industry has evolved and how game technology can be applied in an educational context. This discussion hopefully can give a new perspective about the opportunity and challenge faced by the game developers and how games can be used as an effective educational tool.

 

Series of Activities

The podcast began with an introduction by the activity moderator, who introduced the participants and the main speaker, namely the US Consulate General. This introduction gave a brief overview about the background and goal of the upcoming discussion.

Next, the US Consulate General presented a general view on the development of the game developer industry, especially in the United States. He explained how this industry has experienced rapid growth in recent years and various innovations that game developers have implemented to create more interactive and educational gaming experiences.

The discussion then shifted to the main topic, which is the application of game technology in education. The Consulate General uttered various examples of how game can be used as effective learning tool, starting from educational game that designed to teach specific concepts to the use of gamification element in daily learning to enhance student engagement and motivation.

The participants from American Corner UNAIR also had the opportunity to share their views and experiences. They asked questions about the best way to integrate games into the educational curriculum and how to overcome potential challenges, such as resource availability and acceptance from school.

This discussion was very interactively going on, where each participant was given the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback. The US Consulate General gave in-depth and comprehensive answers, also offering practical advice based on his experience and knowledge.

Saturday, July 13, 2024 – Let’s Play Indonesia, Game Dev Malang, and Lenovo have organized the event GDM x LENOVO: Game Development as a Business: Best Practice and Strategy held on Saturday (13/7/2024). This event was attended by 100 participants from various game studios and individuals with a deep interest in the gaming industry.

This event aimed to share knowledge and strategy on how to turn games into a significant source of income. This session was designed as a platform for in-depth discussions on best practice and strategy needed to build a successful game development business.

 

Series of Activities

The event began with an opening session and introduction guided by representatives from Let’s Play Indonesia, Game Dev Malang, and Lenovo. The participants were warmly welcomed and introduced to the event’s agenda and the goals of this sharing session.

The main session was delivered by Shafiq Husein, Chief Executive Officer of Gambir Studio. Shafiq Husein, who is widely known in the gaming industry, shared experience and deep knowledge about his career journey in developing and monetizing games. He explained various important aspects that game developers need to pay attention to, from initial concept, development, to effective marketing strategy.

Participants were given insights on how to build games that are not only appealing in terms of gameplay but also have high commercial potential. Shafiq Husein discussed the importance of understanding the market, trends in the gaming industry, and how to adjust business strategy to maximize revenue.

This event also included an interactive Q&A session, where participants could directly ask questions to Shafiq Husein. The questions asked cover various aspects from game development to business strategy, giving opportunity for participants to get specific and relevant answers to their needs.

Showcasing Management Entrepreneur Day: Creating a Nation’s Generation that is Creative and Innovative

Malang, June 8, 2024 – Showcasing Management Entrepreneur Day (MED) is the Faculty of Economics Brawijaya University’s annual event. The event was held at Malang Creative Center and was attended by 65 booths from Brawijaya University students, showcasing various innovations and creative solutions under the theme SMART CITY Series: “The Contribution of the Generation”.

The Showcasing Management Entrepreneur Day aims to provide a platform for Brawijaya University’s Management students in showcasing their work. Besides that, another purpose is to develop entrepreneurial spirit among Brawijaya University students, especially for Management department students.

For Let’s Play Indonesia, being a part of this annual event is a memorable experience. The Let’s Play Indonesia representative stated, “We are really proud to be part of this event that provides an opportunity for the young generation to showcase their creativity and innovation. We saw many brilliant ideas emerging and we believe they can bring positive changes for society.”

The participants were guided and equipped with material about design thinking. They were led through several stages of the design thinking process. Starting from understanding user or market needs (empathy), brainstorming ideas (ideation), creating prototypes (prototyping), until testing and refining the prototypes (iteration).

In more detail, at MED, participants were taught on how to understand a problem from the user’s perspective, generate creative ideas, build a prototype, and test it to be refined later. This process aims to ensure that the solution produced is not only innovative, but can also be effectively implemented in the real world.

After the material briefing, the Showcasing (exhibition) session was held. The participants showcased their hard work at their respective booth. Each booth displayed various interesting innovations that resulted from the design thinking process they have gone through.

Visitors and judges from various backgrounds had the opportunity to see and directly interact with the young innovators. Meanwhile, the judges began to sort out which participants were worthy of being selected for presentation on the main stage.

After the exhibition, selected participant groups gave presentations in front of the panel of judges. The judges consisted of industry experts, academics, and practitioners with extensive experience in technology fields and smart city development. The selected participants got the opportunity to present their idea in more depth and receive constructive feedback from the judges.

The series of MED which were quite packed, received an outstanding response from visitors and participants. Many visitors were impressed with the quality and creativity from the exhibited works. With the SMART CITY Series: “The Contribution of the Generation” theme, this event not only inspired the participants and visitors, but also encouraged creative thinking and innovative solutions that can have a positive impact on sustainable city development.

The participants also expressed their gratitude for the opportunity given by Let’s Play Indonesia and Brawijaya University. They felt that this event gave valuable learning experience and strengthened their confidence in developing innovative ideas.
